But once again there is no standart in market to "measure" the "visible light" protection. LRP in europe has their "anthelios mineral one" now that uses 3 different sizes of titanium dioxide and a heavy tint in 5 shades to cover UVA (PPD 21.6), visible light and claims to protect against IR. Your best bet will be to find a tinted sunscreen that is mineral only and has a reasonable PPD rating. La roche posay sunscreens also tend to advertise IR protection but there is no ingredient that has been proved in studies to protect against that, moreover we don't really even know if that protection is needed that much. Even the popular PPD 46 LRP shaka fluid has a tinted version of it, but i believe it is fragranced. However if you really want that protection, there are bunch of chemical sunscreens in europe with a tint. There's a lot we don't know about visible light damage to the skin, but what we know is that it only really causes pigmentation issues for people with darker skin types. But the pigmentation that it drives is only really a concern for people with darker skin color. However really you should mostly be worried about the UVA and maybe also 400 to 450nm (blue + purple light) that drives hyperpigmentation. Thank you so much.įrom the chemical filters none will give protection in visible light, but maybe tinosorb M does a little bit, but probalby not more than zinc oxide nano or titanium dioxide nano. But beyond that I'm at a loss.ĭo any of the newer generation chemical filters impart visible light protection (I think maybe Tinosorb M does?)Īny and all thoughts and feedback is welcome. I'm eyeing the Cotz Flawless Complexion because it contains both 20% Zinc Oxide and iron oxides. I will also be looking for something that contains iron oxides. I'm thinking about getting him a high concentration Zinc Oxide sunscreen to try because I know Zinc Oxide protects against visible light. Is there such a thing on the market that imparts visible light and IR protection? I'm definitely out of my element here, so I'm hoping that those of you that know a lot more than me can help. I'm worried that even my hardcore protection sunscreens are not up to the task simply because they do not protect against radiation in the visible light and IR range. It could be user error, but it could also be because the sunscreen I gave him imparts no visible light or IR protection. But I'm really struggling to find a sun protection product for my partner. I've learned a lot over the years and have no problem selecting sun protection products for myself. I like to think that I know quite a bit about sun protection.
